The East Cape, Baja Sur, Mexico
Jake and Lois want to celebrate with you — eating tacos, drinking margs, surfing, and even diving with sharks (optional). They are excited to share these experiences with you and, most importantly, to celebrate their marriage!
The East Cape awaits, where flat tires are common, donkeys and cows cause traffic jams, and the washboard… well, it wouldn’t be Baja if you weren’t shaken like a maraca in a mariachi band.
“Where the F* is the East Cape?” It’s a 100km stretch along the Sea of Cortez, from San Jose Del Cabo (where you'll land) to La Ribera (where some of you might stay).
Is it safe?
Yes. This area is far from the tourists and nightlife of Cabo.
Will there be cell service and wifi?
- Once you leave the paved road, there is no cell phone service on the East Cape. There is cell service in Cabo Pulmo.
- Wherever you stay will certainly have wifi!
- Starlink works extremely well throughout the East Cape and is offered by many of the van/car camping rental companies.
How do we get to the East Cape:
We suggest renting a car for your time on the East Cape as we will be in different locations throughout the weekend. Shuttles are available for hire from the airport (Google search). See How the F* Do We Get There page for links to suggested car and camper van rentals.
Please try to carpool! If you’d like to get connected with someone to carpool with reach out to Jake!
What’s driving on the East Cape like?
The dirt roads are bumpy, though you don’t need a 4WD vehicle. Just be sure not to drive onto the beach or in deep sand and you’ll be fine.
The most dangerous part about driving on the East Cape is the COWS. Extra caution is needed when driving after dark. There are no street lights and the cows like to roam at night when it cools off. This means driving slower than you might in the daytime. Drunk driving, of course, is not a good idea.
